Anti-glow Leak Detector COSHH Assessment Form

Anti-glow Leak Detector

A three-page COSHH Assessment Form, with some example text reading:

Health risks: May irritate eyes and skin

Skin contact: May cause redness and irritation

Eye contact: May cause redness and irritation. Eyes may water profusely.

Ingestion: Not considered a potential route of exposure.

Inhalation: Shortness of breath may be experienced, with a burning sensation in the throat. Exposure may cause coughing or wheezing.

Anti-glow leak detectors utilise fluorescent dyes and ultraviolet (UV) lights to effectively identify leaks across various systems, including HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), plumbing, and automotive cooling mechanisms. These advanced tools empower technicians to visually locate leaks by highlighting them under UV illumination. They are particularly adept at detecting various fluids, such as refrigerants, fuels, and hydraulic fluids, facilitating timely repairs and preventing further issues.

A precisely formulated fluorescent dye is introduced into the system's fluid. This dye is designed for compatibility with the particular fluids in use, ensuring it does not interfere with system performance while providing effective detection capabilities.

Once added, the fluorescent dye thoroughly mixes with the system's fluid and circulates through all components, including areas that may have developed leaks. This circulation enables the dye to reach potential leak sites, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

Technicians employ a specialised UV light or flashlight to scan the system meticulously. These UV lights emit wavelengths that activate the dye's fluorescent properties, causing it to emit a bright glow that contrasts sharply with the surrounding non-fluorescent surfaces.

When a leak occurs, the escaping fluid carries the fluorescent dye, causing it to fluoresce vividly under the UV light. This striking visual indication allows technicians to quickly identify the precise location of the leak, streamlining the repair process and enhancing overall efficiency.
