Take up slabs Risk Assessment

A comprehensive Risk Assessment for taking up slabs.
To remove paving slabs, first chip away the mortar around the edges with a plugger chisel and club hammer. Strike firmly but carefully to avoid damaging the slab. Use a robust spade (place timber under it to protect adjacent slabs) to gently lift the slab.
For tougher slabs, use a jackhammer or demolition hammer. For thinner slabs, use a combination of a sledgehammer and pry bar, starting at the corners. Lift evenly to prevent cracking.
After lifting, clean the area beneath the slab with a bolster chisel and club hammer, removing old mortar. Sweep away debris.
Depending on your plans, either relay the undamaged slab or prepare the area for new paving. Always wear safety gear like goggles and gloves.
