Tanking slurry, or cementitious tanking, is a thick liquid coating used for waterproofing basements, cellars, and structures prone to water ingress. It consists of Portland cement, selected aggregates, and chemical modifiers, sometimes with acrylic polymers for added strength and flexibility.

The slurry is mixed with water to the desired consistency and applied in multiple coats to surfaces such as brick, concrete, stone, and cement. Each layer must reach a certain thickness to ensure effective waterproofing.

As it cures, the slurry forms crystals that block pores and capillaries in the masonry, creating a watertight barrier that prevents moisture penetration, dampness, mould, and structural damage.

Commonly used in below-ground basements, cellars, retaining walls, swimming pools, and other areas with standing water, tanking slurry enhances the durability and safety of structures in wet conditions, making it vital for modern construction and renovation.
