Food Allergen Awareness Training

Food Allergen Awareness Training
Food allergen awareness training is designed to ensure safety in any food-related business. Put simply, people who work with foodstuffs must be aware of what allergens are and why it's so important not to introduce allergens into foodstuffs that aren't meant to contain them.
Food Allergen Awareness Training helps people learn about the 14 main allergens that can cause food allergies. It teaches how to prevent cross-contamination, which happens when allergens mix with other foods. The program also covers important legal rules, like Natasha's Law, that protect customers. Participants will learn how to spot signs of allergic reactions, prepare food safely, and label products correctly to keep everyone safe.
Key aspects of the training include:
- Legal Compliance: Making sure that businesses follow the rules set out in the Food Information Regulations 2014.
- Allergen Identification: Being aware of the 14 common allergens, such as nuts, gluten, and dairy, that can cause reactions in some people.
- Preventing Cross-Contamination: Learning the best ways to store, handle, and prepare food to keep it safe from mixing with allergens.
- Communication & Labelling: Clearly informing customers about what’s in their food and making sure labels on packaged and loose foods are accurate.
- Emergency Response: Knowing how to recognise signs of allergic reactions, including severe cases like anaphylaxis.
On average, Food Allergen Awareness Training takes about 2 hours, and successful candidates usually receive a certificate valid for 3 years.
