Silicone Spray COSHH Assessment Form

A pre-filled COSHH Assessment Form for silicone sealant, with some example text reading:
Spillage and environmental:
Residues and empty containers should be taken care of as hazardous waste according to local and national provisions.
Mobility: Store in cool, well-ventilated area. Keep container tightly closed.
Accidental release: Eliminate all sources of ignition. No smoking, sparks, flames or other sources of ignition near spillage. Provide adequate ventilation. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Avoid the spillage or runoff entering drains, sewers or watercourses. Collect spillage for reclamation or disposal in sealed containers via a licensed waste contractor. Avoid water contacting spilled material or leaking containers. Approach the spillage from upwind. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Use only non-sparking tools.
Silicone spray is a highly versatile product that functions as a lubricant, release agent, and protective coating, making it invaluable in a wide range of applications. Composed primarily of silicone oil combined with a propellant, it is engineered to significantly reduce friction, prevent stickiness, and safeguard surfaces from moisture and various environmental challenges.
One of its key benefits is the reduction of friction between moving parts, which ensures smoother operation and can extend the lifespan of machinery and equipment. This reduction in friction is particularly important in high-performance applications, where consistent operation is crucial.
The spray forms a robust protective barrier against moisture and other environmental factors, effectively preventing rust, corrosion, and deterioration of surfaces. This protective quality is crucial for maintaining the integrity of metal components and extending their lifespan in outdoor or humid environments.
Silicone spray also excels as a release agent, aiding in the effortless removal of parts from moulds or other surfaces by minimising adhesion. This property is particularly advantageous in manufacturing and crafting, where precision and efficiency in part removal are necessary.
Moreover, the product is designed to leave no sticky residue and is typically odourless, making it suitable for indoor use and applications where aesthetic or olfactory considerations are important.
Compatible with a variety of materials—including metal, plastic, rubber, wood, and leather—silicone spray is an ideal choice for a multitude of tasks, from automotive maintenance to household projects. Its ability to withstand extreme temperatures further enhances its versatility, allowing it to perform effectively in both automotive and industrial settings, where temperature fluctuations can be significant.
In summary, silicone spray stands out as a reliable solution for lubrication, protection, and mould release, contributing to smoother operations and longer-lasting materials across diverse applications.
