  Industries Affected: This can occur across many fields, including agriculture, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, food processing, and car washes.
  Key Indicator: Victims of forced labour often work without getting paid fairly or at all, and they usually can’t leave the situation they’re in.
• Debt Bondage (Bonded Labour): Debt bondage is a common form of modern slavery where people are forced to work to pay off a debt. However, the terms of their work are often set by the lender, and the debt can grow larger due to inflated costs for basic needs like food and housing, making it almost impossible to escape.
  Cycle of Exploitation: Victims can get stuck in a cycle where they can never fully pay off their debt because new charges keep piling up.
• Human Trafficking: Human trafficking involves recruiting, moving, or harbouring individuals through force, coercion, or trickery for the purpose of exploitation.

  Distinction from Smuggling: It’s important to note that human trafficking is focused on exploiting individuals, while smuggling involves moving people across borders for their own benefit.
• Domestic Servitude: This type of forced labour happens inside people's homes, where victims are made to do household chores like cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children, often for long hours without any pay.
  Isolation and Control: Victims are usually cut off from the outside world, have little personal time, and are often not allowed to leave the house, trapping them in a situation of control and servitude.
• Sexual Exploitation: Sexual exploitation involves taking advantage of someone’s sexuality for sexual pleasure, money, or personal gain. Victims can be forced into sex work, prostitution, escort services, or creating pornography.
  Demographic Impact: This issue mainly affects women and children, who often face extreme violence and pressure.
• Criminal Exploitation: In this form of modern slavery, people are made to participate in illegal activities, which include:
  County Lines: Gangs use children and vulnerable adults to move and sell drugs, putting their lives in danger.
  Cannabis Cultivation: Some individuals are forced to work on illegal cannabis farms, often in unsafe and abusive conditions.
  Forced Begging/Theft: Victims are made to steal or beg, with all the money they earn taken by their exploiters, leaving them with no control over their lives.
• Forced and Early Marriage: This kind of slavery happens when people are married against their will, with very few chances to escape. These forced marriages can lead to domestic servitude or sexual slavery, often due to cultural or family pressure that makes it hard for victims to break free.
  Current Statistics: According to a 2022 report, there are 22 million people around the world trapped in forced marriages.
• Organ Harvesting: This is a horrific form of exploitation where traffickers force or trick people into giving up an organ, usually kidneys or livers, which are then sold illegally. Those who go through this often face serious health problems and have no option for justice or recovery.
• Descent-Based Slavery: This is an old form of slavery where people's status as "slaves" is inherited from their family. Many generations can find themselves stuck in slavery without any chance of escape, continuing a cycle of exploitation through their family line.
