A pre-filled COSHH Assessment form for white spirit, with some example text reading:

First aid details:

After significant accidental inhalation: Remove casualty from exposure ensuring one's own safety whilst doing so.

After contact with eyes: Do not rub eyes, as additional cornea damage is possible by mechanical stress. Remove any contact lenses and open the eyelid(s) widely to flush eye(s) immediately by thoroughly rinsing with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes. If possible, use isotonic water (0.9% NaCl). Contact a specialist of occupational medicine or an eye specialist.

After skin contact: Wipe off with tissue and wash contaminated area.

After significant accidental ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting.  Consult a physician if symptoms persist.

AdBlue, formally known as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), is a critical component used in modern diesel vehicles to significantly diminish harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. This fluid is comprised of a precisely formulated mixture of urea, typically sourced from natural gas, and deionised water, which together facilitate a chemical reaction within the vehicle's selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system.

When the exhaust gases pass through the SCR catalyst, the urea in AdBlue undergoes hydrolysis and then decomposes to form ammonia. This ammonia interacts with the NOx in the exhaust stream, effectively converting it into benign nitrogen and water vapour. According to Ford and other automotive manufacturers, this advanced emission control technology is crucial for enabling diesel engines to comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations, thereby playing a significant role in reducing air pollution and promoting cleaner air quality.

By utilizing AdBlue, diesel vehicles not only enhance their environmental performance but also ensure optimal engine efficiency, contributing to sustainability efforts and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
